ATRI Surveying Drivers on HOS Restart Changes

by: Transport Topics

The American Transportation Research Institute is asking commercial drivers to weigh in on changes to the 34-hour restart provision of the federal hours-of-service rule, set to take effect in July.

In a survey released this week, ATRI is asking drivers what potential operational impacts the changes to the restart would have.

The changes dictate two new restrictions on drivers who use the 34-hour restart to reset their weekly driving limits: The restart span must include two rest periods, each from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m., and drivers can use the restart only one day every seven days.

ATRI is an affiliate of American Trucking Associations, which has sued to overturn the HOS regulation.

ATRI’s full HOS study will be released later this year. Drivers can take the survey at ATRI’s website,  www.atri-online.org.
